Thailand *Jul 2013* by ...vale vale...

04-29 Jul 2013

I have started back to travel together with my friend Klaudette. In these past year I have been travelling with her to Malaysia, Tanzania and Peru, but unfortunately she cannot have vacation at the same time as I do, so either I do not go on vacation or I do leave on my own. As you might have imagined I did live on a solo trip, for the first time in my life, at the age of 31.

When I was a teenager I travelled on a yearly basis, but I wasn’t really on my own, I was part of a Youth Exchange Programme.

I looked at Skyscanner and I really didn’t have a clue on where to go to. At the end Thailand seemed to be pretty cheap and safe to go to. Thailand hasn’t been the best trip of my life, but it is the trip which changed my travel experience and which made me meet many many friends from all around the world.

I do not wanna mention them all, but I do know that sooner or later I will meet some of them somewhere on earth.

It hasn’t been that easy to identify the kind of itinerary I was going to do. A preliminary study was done, but then everything was set each previous day.

It was quite a tiring journey and that’s why I decided to spend half of the time at Koh Tao, scuba diving. I didn’t want to move anymore and I just wanted to relax.

Colombia *Oct 2015* by ...vale vale...

09-25 Oct 2015
This year I had to go on vacation during the last week of July and the first of August. Unfortunately the company gave just two weeks off. That said it had been pretty difficult to find something on the budget side for such a period. Nonetheless I had decided to get back to Turkey and to visit Bodrum, Cappadocia. Everything was almost done when the company asked to get my vacation postponed to an unknown date.

Until the beginning of September I didn’t know when my vacation were and then I got to know that they were in the mid of October. I looked at Skyscanner and the flight to Colombia were dramatically low (~ 560€ vs the standard 1.000-1.300€), so I had to buy them in order to get to visit my Colombian friends Carolina and Carlos, met during a couple of tourist trip in Thailand.

Because of the period, because of the busy time at work and so on, I didn’t really have the time to plan my trip. I roughly knew that I wanted to have a relaxing vacation, I didn’t wanna move too often and I did want to scuba dive. In the meanwhile I had otitis just before leaving, so my idea of itinerary had changed several times.

Anyway at the end I didn’t book anything. I got on my planes and I knew that Carolina was there waiting for me. This and that the following days I was in Villa de Leyva were my only certainties!

I had one of my best rewarding trips so far. It was a different experience from the others, I knew I could count on friends, I knew they were anyway there to help me for whatever thing I might have needed. I lived like a local for roundabout a bit less than a week, I got to know the real culture and habits, things that you don’t get to know unless you live in a foreign country.

For a European, at least at the time of writing (x-rate 1€ ~ 3.000 COP), Colombia is very cheap. On top of this I have really got to visit the country in an extremely low budget way, let’s say as far as accommodation, and meal concerns.
